BABICH SEMILLON/CHARDONNAY (FUME VERT) 2005
Overview:
An excellent year for Gisborne has produced a full and rich wine suitable chilled as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to a wide selection of foods.
Grapes: 52% Semillon, 48% Chardonnay
Region: East Coast
Winemaker: Adam Hazeldine
Recommended Food:
It works well as an aperitif, but also a good partner to a wide variety of cuisine. Try it with summer nibbles - olives, gherkins, salami and the like, or try it with wiener schnitzels drizzled with a little bit of lemon and lime juice.
Recommended Cellaring: 2-4 years
Production Notes:
Harvesting took place in the cool of the evening to capture the fresh flavour and aroma of the fruit. Ferment temperatures were likewise kept relatively cool. Upon completion of ferment the wine components were assessed and blended.
Tasting Notes:
The aromas of lemon, apple and pear are joined by a gentle suggestion of cut grass on the bouquet. The palate is a fresh mix of tropical fruit with a lingering citrus note. This is a softly textured wine with medium weight and good balance.
